AquaMarine RIB is a foul release system which provides rib and dingy owners everywhere with the perfect solution for defence against fouling. All variations of fouling find it almost impossible to adhere to the super-slippery hydrophilic coating which can be applied to both Hypalon and PVC tubes. The specially developed silicone formulation works in the same way as our other AquaMarine HULL and PROP products; facilitating a ultra-smooth Rib surface that reduces the ability of fouling species to latch on to.
Simple wiping, jet washing or even via the natural hydrodynamic force of the water when travelling at fast enough speeds is enough to dissuade even the most stubborn of fouling like barnacles, tube worms, seaweed and mussels from compromising ribs & dinghies.
Additionally, AquaMarine RIB does not use any harmful biocides like antifouling paints do to deter fouling. The ease of cleaning means Ribs & dinghies can stay in pristine condition all year round with improved speed, manoeuvrability and avoid the harsh treatment when trying to remove resistant fouling that potentially puncture fabric.
AquaMarine RIB comes in two sizes – small and large and as a one part clear coating. The small 250ml size kit covers 2.5m2 and the large 500ml kit covers 5m2 of material. AquaMarine RIB is an easy to apply one coat silicone application lasting for at least three years. Delivery usually takes just three working days for UK deliveries. Please contact us for questions about European delivery times.
Effect of fouling on ribs?
Ribs with even a moderate amount of fouling can fall victim to a compromise in speed and manoeuvrability which leads to problems in the engine function and other connecting components. Increased hydrodynamic resistance due to fouling that accumulates on the hull and tubes of ribs increases drag and consequently decreases fuel efficiency. Apart from the detrimental performance effects, fouling can simply be such an eyesore on the ribs that all boat owners love to keep in tip top condition.
Benefits of using AquaMarine RIB?
Applying AquaMarine RIB coating along with a healthy maintenance program can afford a number of benefits for boat owners:
• Speed: Inhibiting the accumulation of fouling dramatically improves boat speed. Ultra-smooth Rib and tube surfaces allows boats to glide through the water. The low friction surface decreases water drag and resistance meaning that more knots can be gained, improving acceleration and maintenance of speed.
• Fuel consumption: Fuel consumption and fouling are a major issue in the boating industry. Ribs can labour through the water with engines struggling more to achieve optimum speeds, even after being coated with just a mild layer of fouling, this causes more fuel to be used in order to compensate for the loss in speed and engine power. AquaMarine RIB facilitates a decrease in fuel consumption with less engine power being required for optimum speeds.
• Maneuverability: An additional benefit of having a foul free low friction surface is improved maneuverability. Heavy fouling can mean hindered regulated movement for ribs and dinghies. Environmental impact: Many other boat paints on the market such as antifouls use toxic biocides to kill off any surrounding fouling species. The use of a super-slippery surface that sub-aquatic organisms cannot adhere to means that there is no need to use these harmful biocides, which have been shown to poison marine life. Additionally, reduced drag-resistance means that less fuel is used and therefore less CO2 emissions are produced.
• Easy application: AquaMarine RIB coatings consist of a onetime application, thin silicone finish layer by the use of foam rollers. Unlike antifouls, our paint solution does not contain any heavy metals and therefore does not need rigorous mixing for application. Additionally, any areas of the rib surface which have been worn away by over abrasive action can be simply topped up with the silicone finish coat.
Before attempting application, ensure surface preparation instructions have been followed correctly.
BEFORE YOU START: SURFACE PREPARATION OF A NEW OR UNPAINTED SURFACE
Should the surface be of satisfactory condition, colour and appearance, AquaMarine RIB can be applied directly to the surface. Thoroughly clean and degrease the surface with AquaMarine PREP WASH and rinse with clean water. If you are preparing a previously used boat, remove all forms of hard fouling such as barnacles, weed and slime and all antifoul and then wash the surface thoroughly using PREP WASH as directed. Then rinse with clean water.
Protective clothing should be worn in accordance with the COSHH/MSDS sheets.
After removing any slime or seaweed, thoroughly wash the tubes and rinse well with clean water.
Material is supplied ready to use. Stir contents well prior to use. If the paint is too viscous, place the tin in a warm water bath.
AquaMarine RIB only requires one coat.
To achieve the correct coating thickness, apply AquaMarine RIB with a fine haired roller (supplied).
Do not apply too much at a time as it may run.
When applying the coating use a horizontal stroke followed by a vertical action to ‘lay off’ the coating. This will give it a smooth finish.
